Weigh Loss Hacks We Love
We all appreciate a good life hack. Even if you have a solid workout routine, weight loss hacks are never a bad thing to have in your back pocket (or front pocket). So much of losing weight is mind over matter, and your mind is a lot stronger than you think. Here are our favorite little ways to make weight loss easier.
1. Look at the color blue
Researchers have found that the color blue makes you feel like you’re full, or at least more full. They found that blue of any shade is actually considered an appetite suppressant. So if you’re craving junk food or about to stress eat, take a minute and look at something blue around you, or pull up a blue background on your phone and look at it for a minute.
2. Get sneaky with your vegetables
When you’re cooking, try doubling the veggies in any recipe. Making pasta? Make sure you’re using whole wheat, and simply reduce the amount of pasta and add plenty of your favorite vegetables to fill you up. We love adding eggplant, zucchini, broccolini and tomatoes to ours. This hack works for a lot of different meals and recipes. Double the veggies on your pizza, add more of a mixture as your side, or add some extra in your salad. Once you get into the habit, it’ll be a lot easier than you think.
3. Avoid white foods
White foods like white bread and flour contain large amounts of simple carbohydrates, which lead to weight gain. So ditch those from your shopping cart and focus on eating healthy grains and brown rice. We understand that bread is delicious and sometimes you’ll want to indulge, so just make conscious choices when choosing what to eat. Go for whole wheat and healthier options and enjoy.
4. Eat slower and don’t rush your meal
Life moves fast, so we know that taking your time when eating is easier said than done sometimes. But mindfulness is a powerful tool when it comes to our appetites. It all comes down to paying attention.
Here are few tricks for mindful eating: Really take a look at your meal when you’re eating, and describe it to yourself in your mind. Notice the colors, textures, shapes. Put your fork or spoon down in between bites. This will cause you to eat slower and let your brain catch up to your stomach, which actually fills up faster than you think. And lastly, savor your food. Food is meant to be just as pleasurable as it is nourishing. Especially if you’re having a “cheat day”, savor your food and take a moment to enjoy how good it tastes. If you have any favorite weight loss hacks or recipes, we’d love to hear about them.
