POWERFUL BENEFITS OF DEEP BREATHING

Take a deep breath in, and slowly let it out. Now do it two more times.

Good. When was the last time you breathed deeply like that and connected to your body? If you’re like most people, it’s probably been awhile.

Deep breathing isn’t only useful for stress and anxiety, it has many other helpful uses.

Deep breathing is exactly what it sounds like: breathing deeply into your lungs and slowly exhaling throughout your whole body, focusing on the movement of the breath.

So what else can deep breathing help with?

Deep breathing clears your mind

When you practice slow, deep breathing, it can release more oxygen to your brain, which means you will think more clearly. It’s a great way to clear up brain fog and get you focused and back on your A game. If you’re stuck on a project and your thoughts feel jumbled, close your eyes and breathe deeply for about a minute (or as long as you feel comfortable).

Deep breathing can be used for weight loss

According to Livestrong, “Deep breathing provides your body's cells with oxygen, which helps you absorb nutrients. It also stimulates your lymphatic system to get rid of toxins. If your breath is shallow, also known as chest breathing, your cells are receiving less nutrients and your lymph system may be more sluggish, both of which may lead to weight gain.”

It improves digestion

The more you breathe deep, the healthier blood flow you will produce, which in turn promotes your organs to function more effectively, including your intestines.

It detoxifies and releases toxins

Your body is designed to release 70% of its toxins through breathing. If you are not breathing effectively, you are not properly ridding your body of its toxins i.e. other systems in your body must work overtime which could eventually lead to illness. When you exhale air from your body you release carbon dioxide that has been passed through from your bloodstream into your lungs. Carbon dioxide is a natural waste of your body's metabolism.
